The Wonders of Education
Education is like magic, it impacts us as an individual and the society we find ourselves in. It opens many doors that would be impossible to attain otherwise, as well as giving us a sense of usefulness, for it gives us a place and duty to fulfill in society, depending on our career choice and goals we hope to achieve.
Education gives us hope for the future, as our new generation learns the current knowledge we have, and adds on to it by discovering new ways to cure diseases or invent new technologies, instead of starting from zero, without the knowledge of our predecessors. It offers us ways to achieve our goals and dreams in life, as long as we have the will to work with it, and the opportunity is presented to us. Many of us have visions for the future; a way to cure cancer and other illnesses, to create art as a way to express oneself and present it to the world, to make new inventions like electric cars, and move our society forward. Historically, countries and societies that had the majority of their population educated to a certain degree prospered and have made their mark in history. Rome is a key example of such an event; it is still considered one of the most powerful empires in history. What their scholars and engineers discovered and created are still valued in today’s society, showing how big the impact of a good education can be.
Without education, many of us would not have any purpose in life, and would not be able to find a sense of inner satisfaction and appreciation. We are social animals; we crave the appreciation and acceptance of our compatriots. Being capable of helping and contributing to our society gives many of our species a sense of usefulness. This very need helps us work together and makes us want to let our society progress, instead of reinventing and discovering the same things over and over again. The advancement of our society is attainable because of the knowledge of our predecessors. For example, the invention of gene therapy has made a difference in our society today, and will continue to do so in the future as we discover more on the topic. It would not be possible to even touch on gene therapy before discovery of DNA, which wouldn’t be possible before the discovery of a cell, which wouldn’t be possible without a microscope. If we do not build on the knowledge we have already gained, our society would not move forward, and our goals would remain unachieved, giving most no way of feeling appreciated and needed.
Education is a pathway to achieve our hopes and dreams, impacting us and our society on unimaginable levels. It gives us the hope and way to change our society and make our mark in our world, no matter the scale, giving many a sense of usefulness and belonging in their society.
